The story appears simple on the surface, but is revealed, especially after multiple viewings, as more multi-layered and textured than Cassavetes at his best. Ostensibly it concerns a 14-year old Catholic girl, Wynne (Agutter) growing up in this post-modern wasteland, who develops a crush on her much older adoptive brother (Marshall)- a crush which perversely deepens and grows into infatuation once she starts to believe he is the local sex killer. This is in itself an idea that makes you sit up and jolt, but as the narrative develops, it continues not necessarily along a linear path but in several confusing and fascinating directions: the family's history, (detailed effectively in chilling flashback during an improvised seance) is a chequered one, and has suffered at least one major relocation and upheaval in the last ten years. At the crux, however, it's the depiction of socialal changes that make I Start Counting so fascinating and elevate its language far beyond the confines of the standard horror film. The major subtext- that teenage girls were maturing more quickly than before, and developing full sexual and romantic appetites (even if in thought rather than deed) but were not possessed of enough discretion to make the right choices- was a step forward for a genre in which its young females had previously been portrayed as bimbo victims (Cover Girl Killer and The Night Caller spring to mind), but not one that all viewers would necessarily agree with. But most striking of all, and possibly the most enduring image which the viewer will take away with them, is of the masterful symbolism with which director Greene invests every shot. Every inch of the Kinch family's world- their house, their walls, their TV, Agutters underwear, bedroom furniture and toys, Sutcliffe's clothes, Marshalls van, the local Catholic church, their town centre, their record shop) - is painted a bright, scintillating white- a white which, by inference, is slowly becoming smudged and corrupted with the dirt of the outside world. White also symbolises, of course, purity and innocence (two qualities Catholic schoolgirls are supposed to hold dear), and it is into this world of innocence that the ever-present red bus (a symbol of violation and penetration), conducted by the lecherous yet similarly juvenile Simon Ward, makes regular journeys. The allegory is further expanded in one scene where Agutter believes she sees the Christ figure in church weeping blood: by the time we acknowledge it, its gone, but the seed has already been planted. Rarely in a genre production has the use of colour and background been so important or effective in creating a uniformity of mood. I Start Counting is as near-perfect an end to a decade as one could hope for, and exactly the kind of film people should be making now- which is, of course, exactly why they never will. 无论怎样还是重拾美好
我也跟南希一样从来没有喜欢过自己的身体，总是知道它哪里有问题，粗壮的大腿，肥胖的肚子，总是难以相信自己是性感的或者值得被爱的。哦，我看确实应该吧利欧这样的年轻男人当做政府福利发放给每一个自卑而缺爱的女人。这男演员太帅了连他的口音都那么性感。
讲真对我来讲 结尾的diy高潮和艾玛的裸体对镜 是减分项，太顺拐没新意了吧。咖啡厅偶遇昔日学生今日侍者的段落则有趣得多。
表面上看似乎在讲中老年女性对于爱欲的向往，曾经迎合丈夫的假装，永远无法达到的高潮，对青春期希腊记忆的念念不忘，她将性愿望清单寄托到了拥有年轻肉体还能制造隐秘幻想的性治疗师身上，然而为人师表的一世安分让她产生了罪恶感，她矛盾的渴望着骑马穿越沙漠，又自我囚禁在母亲的身份里，而两人真正从肉体到心灵的交欢后，她终于发现性爱并不可耻，曾经骂那些穿着短裙的学生荡妇也并不是保护，不该用上一代的思想去看这一代的人，这也恰巧是里奥与母亲、她与儿女间所面临的困境，而让生活能够高潮的本质首先要正视自己，哪怕岁月已老，芳华不在
我让我岳母一个人看了。后来我看了，LEO真是一个性圣人！
也只有女导演能拍出这样的电影了，探讨了关于性的边界，性的羞耻感，女人对变老不再年轻美丽的难过，困于家庭社会角色出不去的无奈。对小鲜肉的镜头定义了女性凝视，很有趣，希望能有更多类似的作品。Emma Thompson依然魅力十足
人最难的就是了解自己，接受自己。所以去尽情探索吧，反正也不会多糟糕了
事实证明再简单的剧情和场景还是可以不断挖掘出小惊喜的，两个人的内心世界通过台词不断得以展现，电影在单调的场景内也尽量控制住了节奏，让整个人物和剧情显得愈加有趣立体以及丰满。
四颗星都给艾玛和导演以及剧本对话（部分）。艾玛这个年纪胸（躺着得时候胸好看）和身体包养得也相当不错。以及最后镜前全裸的她。多少异性恋都是她这种体验呢（作为妻子，母亲和女人），或者甚至还不如她，至少她能叫到优质鸭玩一玩，有些地区的异性恋连这种身材优质的鸭都叫不到。一个细节，男的发火咂宾馆墙的时候内线电话打进来询问她有没有危险，虽然英国有很多不让人如意的news，但这点已经算是可以窥见月圆的一角了（虽然到处都没有满月）。看，男的即便当鸭也是处于掌控地位以及比妓女们挣得多多了（一些付不起学费的女性确实是去当了应召女郎同时伴有极大风险）。过于强调男女身体的愉悦这点不喜欢这个部分。艾玛真是宝藏演员。女学生听她说完告白那个表情哈哈哈哈哈
即使是构建的屏幕乌托邦，现实如果能朝向它迈出小小的一步也很棒啊。感觉就像一桶火药，等待着火焰的到来。～
槽点太多让我从何说起。中老年女性也要玛丽苏自由？当然是可以的，但也仅此而已，如果要探讨某些议题，从一开始选角就错了，不然坐在地板上岔开臃肿双腿的女人应该是凯西贝茨。本片是用来满足大部分女人意淫地，所有美好的东西对于当前女性来说都是意淫，观众的反应也很有趣，他们不是不能接受性工作者，他们能接受的是高高在上优雅迷人的男性工作者，而对真实的被唾弃的女性性工作者纷纷撇开头打了低分（参见应召女郎和欢愉）这也说明，在性别权利严重失衡的当下，女性凝视绝对不可能通过任何形式实现！
