The story appears simple on the surface, but is revealed, especially after multiple viewings, as more multi-layered and textured than Cassavetes at his best. Ostensibly it concerns a 14-year old Catholic girl, Wynne (Agutter) growing up in this post-modern wasteland, who develops a crush on her much older adoptive brother (Marshall)- a crush which perversely deepens and grows into infatuation once she starts to believe he is the local sex killer. This is in itself an idea that makes you sit up and jolt, but as the narrative develops, it continues not necessarily along a linear path but in several confusing and fascinating directions: the family's history, (detailed effectively in chilling flashback during an improvised seance) is a chequered one, and has suffered at least one major relocation and upheaval in the last ten years. At the crux, however, it's the depiction of socialal changes that make I Start Counting so fascinating and elevate its language far beyond the confines of the standard horror film. The major subtext- that teenage girls were maturing more quickly than before, and developing full sexual and romantic appetites (even if in thought rather than deed) but were not possessed of enough discretion to make the right choices- was a step forward for a genre in which its young females had previously been portrayed as bimbo victims (Cover Girl Killer and The Night Caller spring to mind), but not one that all viewers would necessarily agree with. But most striking of all, and possibly the most enduring image which the viewer will take away with them, is of the masterful symbolism with which director Greene invests every shot. Every inch of the Kinch family's world- their house, their walls, their TV, Agutters underwear, bedroom furniture and toys, Sutcliffe's clothes, Marshalls van, the local Catholic church, their town centre, their record shop) - is painted a bright, scintillating white- a white which, by inference, is slowly becoming smudged and corrupted with the dirt of the outside world. White also symbolises, of course, purity and innocence (two qualities Catholic schoolgirls are supposed to hold dear), and it is into this world of innocence that the ever-present red bus (a symbol of violation and penetration), conducted by the lecherous yet similarly juvenile Simon Ward, makes regular journeys. The allegory is further expanded in one scene where Agutter believes she sees the Christ figure in church weeping blood: by the time we acknowledge it, its gone, but the seed has already been planted. Rarely in a genre production has the use of colour and background been so important or effective in creating a uniformity of mood. I Start Counting is as near-perfect an end to a decade as one could hope for, and exactly the kind of film people should be making now- which is, of course, exactly why they never will. 歌舞都很好很精美但美中不足不够打动人心，从电影角度来看人物塑造不够立体。但歌舞片就是要有歌舞片的样子，有加菲又唱又跳还要什么自行车。
一边是默片重获新生转为有声电影，一边是老妇人离世，另一种形式的死与新生。
加菲太适合扮演这个角色，演技好、与原型像。
看完最大的遗憾就是已经过了29岁可以唱里面那首 30/90 的时候，这段唱段过于迷人。

全片唯一高潮似乎就是桑德海姆的“到场“，音乐剧电影拍成剧情和歌曲完全不相融，精心设计出的歌词与画面的“同步”无法带来任何情感上的共鸣。不触及90年代真实的政治氛围、不展现舞台艺术在LGBT文化运动中的先锋性质，就永远无法正确地驱魔，没有记忆何来克服，只有浮于表面的致敬。

520第一次看唐顿，没想到电影院一个人都没有，包场了，唐顿给我和感觉真的很像百年孤独，一代又一代地轮回，也让我感受到为什么保守派会抵御科技，与其说他们抵御不如说他们恐惧，恐惧改革后对他们贵族的影响，家族无法沿续，需要资金修房顶，最后也只能向电影公司天价的租场费妥协
生理共情的结果就是眼泪更加充盈，要比情感来得快得多。怎么没人夸凡妮莎，又美又会唱，爱了。

自我感动罢了。精准的剪辑和抓人的旋律很容易就渲染出情绪，也很容易暴露出剧作的空洞。优秀传记片不同于粉丝电影之处就在于人物的立体和表达的独立。而本片在这两者上的绝对短板让其注定只能是粉丝电影。本片其实在中途抛出了几个非常有价值的议题以及随之带出的矛盾：艺术家将正在进行中的亲密关系作为创作素材是否有悖于伦理，以及艺术家人格固有傲慢的消极一面。但是这两组矛盾全都在最后伴随着主角早已被观众所知的成功莫名其妙地消失了。所有的精湛技术只是为了讲一个1.0的鸡汤奋斗故事，再动人的旋律也会变得无聊和虚假。就传记片而言，本片导演离拍出《登月第一人》的查泽雷差着十万八千里。

但是没有看过剧的会很迷茫。
整部片子相当浮躁，剧情浮躁，表演浮躁，连歌曲都浮躁。难道真正焦虑的是编剧？没剧情就算了，主要是配乐为什么会那么吵，还好后半小时安静了一小会儿，难道是我老了。3.6
迷你剧和第一部都没看过，不影响对内容的理解。剧情的安排和设定像流水一样自然铺开，感觉像是英式贵族传统与新兴平民媒介的冲突与融合，庄园的未来发展暗含更多可能。
