The story appears simple on the surface, but is revealed, especially after multiple viewings, as more multi-layered and textured than Cassavetes at his best. Ostensibly it concerns a 14-year old Catholic girl, Wynne (Agutter) growing up in this post-modern wasteland, who develops a crush on her much older adoptive brother (Marshall)- a crush which perversely deepens and grows into infatuation once she starts to believe he is the local sex killer. This is in itself an idea that makes you sit up and jolt, but as the narrative develops, it continues not necessarily along a linear path but in several confusing and fascinating directions: the family's history, (detailed effectively in chilling flashback during an improvised seance) is a chequered one, and has suffered at least one major relocation and upheaval in the last ten years. At the crux, however, it's the depiction of socialal changes that make I Start Counting so fascinating and elevate its language far beyond the confines of the standard horror film. The major subtext- that teenage girls were maturing more quickly than before, and developing full sexual and romantic appetites (even if in thought rather than deed) but were not possessed of enough discretion to make the right choices- was a step forward for a genre in which its young females had previously been portrayed as bimbo victims (Cover Girl Killer and The Night Caller spring to mind), but not one that all viewers would necessarily agree with. But most striking of all, and possibly the most enduring image which the viewer will take away with them, is of the masterful symbolism with which director Greene invests every shot. Every inch of the Kinch family's world- their house, their walls, their TV, Agutters underwear, bedroom furniture and toys, Sutcliffe's clothes, Marshalls van, the local Catholic church, their town centre, their record shop) - is painted a bright, scintillating white- a white which, by inference, is slowly becoming smudged and corrupted with the dirt of the outside world. White also symbolises, of course, purity and innocence (two qualities Catholic schoolgirls are supposed to hold dear), and it is into this world of innocence that the ever-present red bus (a symbol of violation and penetration), conducted by the lecherous yet similarly juvenile Simon Ward, makes regular journeys. The allegory is further expanded in one scene where Agutter believes she sees the Christ figure in church weeping blood: by the time we acknowledge it, its gone, but the seed has already been planted. Rarely in a genre production has the use of colour and background been so important or effective in creating a uniformity of mood. I Start Counting is as near-perfect an end to a decade as one could hope for, and exactly the kind of film people should be making now- which is, of course, exactly why they never will. 就算保罗·施拉德一遍又一遍地在重复自己以往的创作那又如何呢？我反正很吃这一套。电影的质感令人着迷，奥斯卡·伊萨克对角色的掌握沉稳且精准，我非常喜欢。

770｜不知为何，这种冷峻压抑的风格很吸引我。除去尴尬的情感线，这个故事是施拉德《出租车司机》《第一归正会》的延续，而算牌和白布等设定让整部电影更神秘，更迷人。别人不喜欢就算了，反正我很喜欢。
除了那句“usa！usa!”还有极其敷衍的床戏之外，没有任何可看的地方，太无聊了！不3倍速放完根本坚持不下去！
这片子看的我是真的无聊。很久没看这么无聊的片子了。

鱼眼镜头蛮特别，有情绪。哈哈有种在贝壳上VR看房的感觉。我很少相信救赎，就像我不相信有和解一样，一切都是短暂的超脱，之后还会回来，都是时间叠加的游戏，身份转换的忘性。我只能劝导演，悲惨的过去和拧巴的性格，要想要过得好，只能学会记忆覆盖，可能盖不住，尽力就好啦。不过要先学会分辨好坏，很朴素，但很重要，总好过，拎不清用坏的去覆盖好的。
（7.3/10）《算牌人》的电影与其主角一样冷峻，施拉德创作的角色William是一个自我审判者，视赎罪为唯一目的，为赎罪不计任何后果。而正如他算牌的经验之谈，打出任何牌都会产生后果。Finally, he tilted.
虽然我看的很懵,但是这个影像风格实在是太强了
电影通过倒序描述一个赌徒的人生，来达到揭开国家的黑暗面，导演希望通过这样描述来得到观众的共鸣。可见在美利坚人眼中，容不下那些冰山一角的腐败，他们追求着一个完美的平等的法治国家，想对于地球的另一面，铺天盖地的黑暗，他们已经幸福很多了。

披着赌片皮的复仇片，老马丁几十年后又拍了部军工复合体如何吃人的片子。
优点和缺点都很明显的一部片子：从视听上讲，艺术程度不低，冷峻和疏离感塑造得很好；从剧情上讲，剧本实在不敢恭维，节奏也很拖沓。不过，奥斯卡在这部片子里也太辣了点，一头灰发冷着脸大吼着把男二推在床上那段我整个人都精神了。

施拉德这次又继续了他的救赎主题，而且还是能把人物情感细节的拿捏的如此精准
比《第一歸正會》難看不少。尋求救贖的男人總喜歡在一塵不染的房間裡頭寫字自省哦！可真把WSOP拍得毫無競技性可言。那個USA真是牌技高超的白男沙雕，演員搭配和表演調度看得怪尷尬的。這片子各方面都人工且直白，賭場裝潢不洋氣，但電影不能這麼不講究的吧。
7.5/10 本片的调度有着迷人气质，剧情聚焦过往创伤与自我救赎和解，节奏缓慢，Osacr Isaac有一股神奇的魔力能够时刻吸引我的注意力，让我陷入角色的所思所想之中，使得整体观感还算不错。
