The story appears simple on the surface, but is revealed, especially after multiple viewings, as more multi-layered and textured than Cassavetes at his best. Ostensibly it concerns a 14-year old Catholic girl, Wynne (Agutter) growing up in this post-modern wasteland, who develops a crush on her much older adoptive brother (Marshall)- a crush which perversely deepens and grows into infatuation once she starts to believe he is the local sex killer. This is in itself an idea that makes you sit up and jolt, but as the narrative develops, it continues not necessarily along a linear path but in several confusing and fascinating directions: the family's history, (detailed effectively in chilling flashback during an improvised seance) is a chequered one, and has suffered at least one major relocation and upheaval in the last ten years. At the crux, however, it's the depiction of socialal changes that make I Start Counting so fascinating and elevate its language far beyond the confines of the standard horror film. The major subtext- that teenage girls were maturing more quickly than before, and developing full sexual and romantic appetites (even if in thought rather than deed) but were not possessed of enough discretion to make the right choices- was a step forward for a genre in which its young females had previously been portrayed as bimbo victims (Cover Girl Killer and The Night Caller spring to mind), but not one that all viewers would necessarily agree with. But most striking of all, and possibly the most enduring image which the viewer will take away with them, is of the masterful symbolism with which director Greene invests every shot. Every inch of the Kinch family's world- their house, their walls, their TV, Agutters underwear, bedroom furniture and toys, Sutcliffe's clothes, Marshalls van, the local Catholic church, their town centre, their record shop) - is painted a bright, scintillating white- a white which, by inference, is slowly becoming smudged and corrupted with the dirt of the outside world. White also symbolises, of course, purity and innocence (two qualities Catholic schoolgirls are supposed to hold dear), and it is into this world of innocence that the ever-present red bus (a symbol of violation and penetration), conducted by the lecherous yet similarly juvenile Simon Ward, makes regular journeys. The allegory is further expanded in one scene where Agutter believes she sees the Christ figure in church weeping blood: by the time we acknowledge it, its gone, but the seed has already been planted. Rarely in a genre production has the use of colour and background been so important or effective in creating a uniformity of mood. I Start Counting is as near-perfect an end to a decade as one could hope for, and exactly the kind of film people should be making now- which is, of course, exactly why they never will. 如果不是童年有郑渊洁情怀加成的话，这片连及格线都达不到，皮大王皮皮鲁全片像个傻子一样，鲁西西的大女主戏份和五个罐头小人主导了主要剧情，爸爸妈妈和老师都和《驯兔记》一样完全沦为工具人，想要与时俱进的批判应试教育和现如今的素质教育问题却太浅层次，可以说连皮毛都没摸到，一开始靠博士的作弊满分到后来发现作弊的不对而集体努力也完全没合理的过程，最为大多数人所诟病的火灾及自救过程，被学过民防课的人理解沦为反面教材，完全是为了凸显上尉的牺牲精神，而歌唱家虽然为全片颜值担当，却实在太过花瓶，约翰也纯为搞笑和耽误事的作用而存在，究竟是郑渊洁的童话过时了，还是主创的能力不够不得而知，希望彩蛋的《魔方大厦》不要再重蹈覆辙

将本体的恶剥离并养育成完全体，再强制代表一切的善的本体去见证无限放大的恶，二者看似的对立实则却又同命相连。正如Jolin医生说过，爱就爱，错就错，面对真实的自我。
看完了，最后Alli站起来彻底变成了Tinja，还以为会来个妈带她去参加体操比赛得第一的情节。起初蛋壳里出来的小怪兽多可爱呀渐渐渐渐的变成了女主就不那么可爱了。
是孩童对逼仄窒息的成人世界难得的一点反抗和质问，有着熟悉的郑渊洁味道。制作上有些简陋，人物形象刻板脸谱化，有些低龄，还是适合启发家长和小孩子的。
故事感觉有点简单了啊，所有元素和情节都点到为止，没有太恶化的表现，妈妈也没有歇斯底里，爸爸和弟弟完全打酱油，最后故事也戛然而止，没能留下太多印象的电影
